Internet Pharmacy Ships Wrong Medication
The FDA reported that a number of people that ordered Ambien, Ativan, Lexapro, and Xanax online received a powerful anti-psychotic drug called haloperidol instead. The FDA has since reiterated warnings and safety steps for Americans to follow when purchasing prescription medication online.
In the several recent cases reported in the United States, only a handful had to receive medical attention. The medication they received, haloperidol, causes agitation, muscle spasms, sedation, and stiffness.
Although the origin of the medication is still under investigation, all boxes of medication were postmarked from Greece. The victims have identified several of the internet web sites involved and have launched investigations into each case. According to the FDA, even though the websites have been found, it will still be hard to identify the vendor of the bogus medication.
The FDA recommends for consumers to review tips posted on their website before purchasing prescription medication online. Another good way to protect yourself from bogus online pharmacies is to join a consumer advocacy group for purchasing prescription medication.
